We like to keep it a surprise – you’ll have to wait until the book comes out.

      Hello Madison,
I tried to email you this but the email was bounce back to me, so I’m going to post my reply right here, and hope you get it! Good luck with your class project!

      Hello Madison!

I’d love to help you with your project. Though I have to admit it is a bit odd for me to explain why someone should read my books. No one should have to read anything unless they really want to. (and unless of course it’s required reading for class)

It feels a bit like I would be bragging if I told you why your class should read my books, but what I will do is say what I hope readers will get from my stories if they do decide to read them.

Each of my Disney villain books has a message. A theme. Their own cautionary tale. Sounds boring, I know (especially if you’re trying to talk your class into reading my books) but I promise it isn’t. And if you’ve read them all, (and I have a feeling you have) then I have full faith that you will be able to expand upon these themes I’ve listed, and share your own thoughts on the stories and their themes with your classmates.

Book #1 – Fairest of All: the danger of losing yourself in grief, and succumbing to insecurity.

Book #2 – Beast Within: the consequences of being cruel, vain, and caddish.

Book #3 – Poor Unfortunate Soul: the consequences of forcing someone to hide their true selves, to make them feel loathsome, and not worthy of love. And giving in to the hate and pain that it causes.

Book #4 – Mistress of All Evil: the dangers of giving too much of yourself away, and not allowing yourself to be loved.

Perhaps those aren’t the messages you got from the story, that’s okay. Art, and stories are subjective. Share what message spoke to you, who your favorite character was, and how they made you feel. I’m sure if you do that then at least some of your classmates might want to read the books.

      And most importantly remember:

There is always so much more to a person than we will ever know.

With the Wicked Queen I wanted to know why she would want to hurt her daughter? What caused that? What could drive a woman to hurt her own child? And with the Beast Within I wanted to know what had he done to justify the enchantress to curse him? And why would Ursula want to destroy King Triton and his daughter Ariel? What had Triton done to deserve that? And lastly why was Maleficent so angry she wasn’t invited to Aurora’s christening? To me there had to be reasons.

There’s always a reason, so that’s where started with the story, I started with WHY.

And I try to remember to ask myself that when someone in my life isn’t at their very best. I ask them if they are okay. I ask them why.

Beyond that, what makes me the most happy is to know that some of my readers have used my stories to help them through tough times in their life, perhaps as a means of escape so they don’t have to think about a problem in their life, or perhaps they identified with a character and through reading about them it somehow helped them, or gave them the courage to face a challenge… really I just love knowing someone enjoyed reading my books for whatever reason. And I love when they take the time to let me know by writing me. So thank you. It means the world to me to know you enjoy my books and you want to share them with your class.

I hope this has helped. And I hope I didn’t take too long getting it to you.

Good luck! And have a lovely day,
      Serena

The cover is gorgeous 🙂 Maleficent is one of my favourite Disney villains ! ♥
I hope you’ll do Dr Facilier of “The Princess and the Frog” at one point ! I found that this villain is so mysterious and interesting, it would be nice to know why he’s evil 😉

    You’re so awesome ! 😉
